***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*** Jazz Gallery to host De De Dada Inspired Art by Alice Waraxa, RAA’s First Artist-in-Residence Exhibit Alice Waraxa, local conceptual artist & photographer, will exhibit a series of Dadaist-inspired multimedia art to culminate her three-month as the first Artist-in-Residence with the Riverwest Artists Association. The exhibit, entitled “DeDe”, will be available for viewing at The Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts, 926 E. Center Street, Milwaukee, from Tuesday May 12 through Saturday, May 30, 2016. An opening reception with the artist will take place Friday, May 15, 7-9pm. DaDa was an art/anti-art movement in the early 1900s and is defined as a deliberately meaningless title for an anarchical literary and artistic movement begun in 1916. It proposed a nihilistic revolt against all bourgeois ideas of rationality, meaning, form and order. Collages were created by arranging objects and words in meaningless and illogical patterns. Waraxa has made her own movement with values and inspiration from Dada. Her exhibit is called “DeDe” based on the following keywords: Decentre: Decentering is the process of removing power from some perceived center of authority. Deconstruction, Deconstruction Criticism represents blanket titles for certain radical theories which revise and develop the process of structuralist examination. Waraxa, Riverwest Artist Association’s first Artist-in-Residence, is known for her artistically eccentric creative writing and editorial photography skills. She is currently the Editor of Riverwest Currents. Accompanying Waraxa will be artwork of RAD (aka Jarad Clayton).
